Hey guys! Happy Friday! How is everyone? I woke up excited that today's my rest day and it's Friday! I've been working out really hard since Monday, and I'm super excited to spend my lunch break over at the mall today, instead of the gym!
As many of you know, I'm working on incorporating goals through Lara Casey's powersheets and so far this month, it's been great! I've been knocking out goals - both big and small - and I feel really good about where I am mid-month.
One thing I've noticed, though, is that some of my goals are harder to achieve than others. For instance, exercise is one of the easier things for me to do each day: I love exercise and have access to a gym at work! But it's near impossible to take 30 minutes of quiet time, read for leisure, read my bible, paint, or write without distraction for an hour...
I think part of the problem is that I'm constantly distracted, especially with Pinterest - it's so addicting. You guys know I also love Instagram, but there comes a point when you've got to put down the phone/computer and be present in life! Lately it seems like such a time-suck, too and without realizing it, I spend upwards of 15 minutes working on one little IG post... and for what? A few likes? This article- The Real Reason to Quit Facebook (and 10 What-ifs)- really hit home with me, especially this part:
We soon find ourselves viewing every thing we do in life through the lens of our smartphone. Constantly reporting our lives rather than living them. Only valuing activities to the extent that they can be captured and shared online.
Wow. What a wake-up call. That's me!
Granted, part of that comes from being a blogger (and needing to take pictures, report about my life), which I don't think is a bad thing, unless it gets out of hand and I'm constantly blogging and on social media, and not taking intentional breaks.
Can you guess what's coming next?
Yep, an intentional unplug! I'm not sure for exactly how long, but if you don't see on me on Instagram, don't worry, I'm around! I'm just taking time to do more of the things I love and not worrying about reporting them to the world! I'm just going to enjoy them!
One of the awesome things about the Powersheets is that there's a section for this called Weekend Tending! Here's a few of my weekend tending to-dos:
- Go to the farmer's market
- Go kayaking
- Try rock-climbing
- Start a garden
- Color in my anatomy coloring book (learn the muscle groups!)
- Paint with my watercolors (I'm really dying to do this. I love, love, love illustration watercolors like the one above)!
- Send a package to a friend, a thank you note or encouraging card
- Print and hang new pictures
- Create an inspiration board (a real one; not a Pinterest one)
- Go for a hike with Aaron (here's 10 reasons why hiking is awesome!)
- Go for a bike ride
- Spend a full day taking pictures someplace new
- Go strawberry picking
- Go to the pool
- Meal prep with a friend
- Take pictures of my new apartment
- Redecorate our bedroom
That list fires me up, y'all! It gets me REALLY excited for a weekend of unplugging! Maybe several weekends! I'll be back online Monday!
