Hey guys! Happy Sunday! How are you? How was your weekend?
I'm just popping in to say that Aaron and I just watched the one-hour finale of the 2013 Reebok Crossfit Games and man, was that exciting!
I haven't been following the games very closely except through my favorite fitness bloggers (Tina from Carrots'n'Cake is there and so is DC blogger, Erika from The Sweet Life). I've also been following via Instagram (@crossfit, @crossfit_girls, and @thecrossfitgames).
In case you missed it, this year's Fittest Man on Earth is Rich Froning and the Fittest Woman on Earth is Samantha Briggs. Since I'm somewhat new to crossfit, I had not heard of either, but, it took less than an hour to love Froning! Watching him win the last round, run to his family to celebrate, and then encourage the other competitors was just awesome. I learned that Froning is the reigning champion - this is his third consecutive win (wow), and guess what? He's from my very favorite state, Tennessee!
The workouts were like nothing I've ever seen before - legless rope climbs and weighted pistols. There was a half-marathon row (omg, I cannot even imagine!) and no shortage of heavy lifting either- the women dead lifted 265 lbs! That is just insane!
I really enjoyed watching the finale today, and it reinforced one of my favorite aspects of this sport -- community!
I'm definitely inspired to give it my all this week!
Here's a quick look at Saturday's WOD (which I did with Aaron):
3 Rounds for Time:
- 30 Wall balls
- 20 Sit-ups
- 10 Clusters (a deadlift/thruster movement)
- 400-meter run
I finished in 21:51, but I did not Rx the workout (meaning, I didn't do the workout as prescribed). The wall balls, in particular, are so much harder than they look. My ball weighted 14 lbs, but it felt a lot heavier! I couldn't get it to reach the required (Rx) height, and I also lifted 55 lbs for the clusters, not the prescribed 165 lbs.
Next time this workout is up, I'm aiming to Rx it!
Have you gotten into any new sports lately?
Did you watch the 2013 Crossfit Games finale?
