Meet Marissa and Derek, newlyweds who met at a CrossFit box.

Going off all the - gorgeous! - blush pink in their wedding you might not guess these two were CrossFitters, but they're certainly in shape! Just look at Marissa's silhouette! She's stunning!

Derek has to stay in shape - he's a Law Enforcement Officer on the Special Weapons and Tactics (aka SWAT) team. You can tell he's quite proud, as he should be!

Below Marissa shares a little about how her and Derek met, wedding planning, and their honeymoon. Tonya Beaver is the genius behind the lens; these photos are perfection! Thank you for your submission, Tonya! Now take it away, Marissa!

How did you two meet?

We met at a CrossFit gym in the summer of 2011. I had recently moved to Jacksonville beach and needed to find a gym- I just picked the one closest to me. We both worked at night so we attended a late afternoon class together and I always found myself getting butterflies in anticipation of pulling up and seeing his car there! We quickly discovered that we attended the same church (he sat in the front row so of course he never saw what was behind him) and in a few short days we were on our first date. We hung out almost every day, we were off from then on, and began dating shortly after that.

How did you decide on your color scheme, flowers, and cake?

Pink is my favorite color so I knew I wanted to do pink, and since hot pink had become so popular at the time, I chose a light pink. I was really into light pink and grey, and Derek was OK with that as long as the pink was the accent color, so that it was. I absolutely love peonies and I wanted to have them in my bouquet, even if they were out of season and more expensive. I don’t care for the look of regular roses so my florist used spray roses and garden roses for the girls’ bouquets and the guys’ boutonnieres, which are both somewhat more similar looking to peonies but less expensive and easier to get during the summer.

2014-04-06_0025
2014-04-06_0025

I wanted to keep the cake somewhat simple and knew I wanted a solid, three-tier, square cake but didn’t know or care much about the specifics. Derek went to the tasting with me and actually saw pictures of designs he liked and chose the accents and details for it. I wanted to keep the flavors simple- the tiered cake was white chocolate and the sheet cake was chocolate.

What were some of your favorite details?

I had an idea in my head of what I wanted our invitations to look like, but couldn’t find it anywhere or on any website without paying about $5 per invite! I finally found something I loved on Etsy (I used Etsy for almost EVERYTHING!) and the prices were very reasonable. It was simple, only a one-sided invitation, a reply card, and the envelope- the shop is called The White Invite.

Tell us how Derek proposed.

He tricked me into planning my own engagement evening so I wouldn’t be suspicious! We had previously been to St. Augustine to celebrate Christmas of 2011 and my birthday that year so it was a special city to us. It was the beginning of December 2012 and I told him I wanted to go see the Nights of Lights event they put on every year. He agreed and told me to pick out a nice place to have dinner at and make reservations. I made the plans and we went, had dinner, and he proposed afterwards in front of the beautifully decorated staircase at the Casa Monica hotel. Such a surprise!

If you could give yourself any advice prior to the wedding, what would it be?

To not worry about what everyone else wants or trying to please the family, guests, etc. This is OUR day and we get to choose the way we want things to be done. Also, relax and enjoy all of the little moments. The day goes by SO fast and I just tried not to get caught up in the delays, dilemmas, and details of the day. Everything would work out, and no matter what happened, at the end of the day I would still be marrying my love!

Brittany & Kevin // Gorgeous Winery Tent Wedding

Every once and awhile I get a wedding submission that gets me giddy about weddings all over again - 3 years after my own! Especially when the photographer captures the details so beautifully! Such was the case with this gorg winery tent wedding photographed by Arina B. Photography. There's something magical that happens when you mix a winery, a fuchsia color palette, and a pink sunset. Then add floral headpieces, gold flats, and a glowing bride, and this, my friends, is one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever seen! Romantic and whimsy with a whole lotta class, Brittany and Kevin take winery wedding to a new level. Congratulations to the beautiful couple! Fashion Friday: Pink & Yellow

Getting back to working out after nine days away has been a litle rough, but I'm determined to get back into my routine. Two of my biggest workout motivations are music and clothes -- what can I say, I'm a girly girl -- and I'm excited to wear new nanos to CrossFit this weekend!  ... And finally retire the sneakers I ran a marathon in two years ago! (It was definitely their time to go!) These Fashion Friday posts have been a great resource for me for shopping for workout clothes, because well, I'm not really the shopping type. You guys know my wardrobe has major holes and workout clothes is one of them! The last few months I've focused more on casual clothes because that's what was lacking the most in my closet but, I'm going to try to add more workout clothes to my wardrobe this year -- I workout enough! I should have more than 3 sports bras, sheesh! And why not have a cute zipfront one like this?

Fit Bride, Natasha Talks about CrossFitting for the Big Day

Good morning! It's an icy, dreary day in DC but I have some gorgeous wedding images to brighten your morning! When I received this submission through Two Bright Lights, I almost turned it down because I had previously vowed to myself that I would only post weddings and engagements that tied back to our fitness theme. I loved these images so much, though - what a gorgeous wedding! - I decided to go out on a limb and email the photographer to ask if her bride, Natasha had any stories she would be willing to share about her health and fitness regimen prior to her big day. Almost immediately the photographer responded, "She does crossfit and eats paleo! Would that work?" Um, yes. It most certainly would!

When I emailed Natasha to inquire further, she totally blew me away! She was the sweetest girl and more than happy to share about her love of crossfit with me. I emailed her some questions and guys, she got back to me the. same. day. !!!

2013-11-30_0029

I loved reading Natasha's responses to my questions (because I can relate so much), and know she will be of value to any of you brides considering taking up Crossfit before their big day. In fact, I think they're a great read for anyone thinking of taking up crossfit! Natasha will share her story in her own words, but first, lets look at these amazing photos from Rebecca Ellison photography.

When did you start doing CrossFit?

August of 2013 (about two weeks after my August 12, 2013 engagement!)

What prompted your interest?

To be honest, it was my fiancé, now my husband! I had never really even heard of CrossFit and when I finally learned about it, I never thought I'd be athletic enough to lift the kind of weights CrossFitters do!

2013-11-30_0025Did your fiancé participate too?

Yes! He's the one who convinced me to join with him last year, and ever since then, it's been "our thing" that we do together.

2013-11-30_0024

What was your initial reaction?

(Mine was something like: omgthisishard but I LOVE IT! Lol) My reaction was similar - "What the heck am I doing in this place! ...you want me to do a hundred squats, fifty sit ups, and an 800 meter run - 10 times?!" I was so sore after my first WOD that it took me a week to even walk back into the box.

2013-11-30_0023

2013-11-30_0028 2013-11-30_0022

How often did you go?

I would go about three time a week in the beginning. Now that I've done it for a while, I go 4 or 5 times a week. I can't get enough!

2013-11-30_0016

What was your aim? To get stronger? lose weight? both?

My ultimate goal, at first, was to lose weight. I was always focused on the scale. As time went on, I realized that CF was making me stronger, and everyone knows that muscle weighs more than fat. I can finally say that I'm no longer only concerned about the numbers I see on the scale, it's more about the results I see in front of the mirror.

2013-11-30_0035

Did you start to see changes in your body?

Yes! I wanted to lean down and get toned before the wedding, and with a combination of eating paleo, I was actually able to do so!

What were they? Were you happy with those changes?

My arms, legs, and stomach have seen the most changes! I'm still not exactly where I want to be, but I'm definitely close!

2013-11-30_0031

When did you start eating paleo?

I started eating a paleo diet about four months before my August 10th wedding. I tried an Advocare 24-day Challenge, and saw amazing results when mixed with the paleo diet, so once my challenge was over, I just kept up the diet! My husband also eats paleo, so it makes it easy to eat clean and cook healthy.

Was that way of eating something you learned about through box?

Definitely. I'm pretty sure all of our coaches eat Paleo, and everyone is always talking about it. It's a running joke every time a group of us hang out or grab a bite to eat someone always has to ask, "is this paleo"?!

What were the results of eating paleo? Did you lose weight? Feel better? Get stronger?

All of the above! Every since starting paleo, my lifts have gotten heavier, my cardio has gotten better, I feel leaner and can see more muscle definition than ever.

2013-11-30_0017

Was part of your overall motivation to workout prompted by your upcoming wedding?

Definitely, I wanted to look amazing on my special day! I used to belong to your standard big-box gym, where I would go for an hour or so at a time, not really knowing how or what to work out - which I knew was not going to cut it for me. Once joining my CF gym, I actually became addicted to it! I started thinking how much I finally enjoyed working out. Knowing my wedding was coming up definitely helped spark that motivation!

2013-11-30_0032

What part specifically? Your dress? Seeing all your friends and family? The pictures?

My dress. I knew I wanted a fitting strapless wedding gown, which meant it was time to tone up!

Finally, how did you feel on your wedding day!

(You looked AMAZING, by the way!) Thanks! I felt great! I wish I could relive that day over again! I loved getting pampered and having my hair and makeup done! The second I put my dress on and saw everything finally come together was one of the best feelings. I felt so beautiful!

2013-11-30_0026

How long (months) were you doing CrossFit prior to your wedding?

12 months!

Do you still do CrossFit?

Yes! I love it and don't think I'll ever stop, despite the million and a half squats they make us do.

What's your favorite CrossFit move/exercise/wod?

I love anything with kettle bells! I feel like I always get a great work out and can challenge myself my using heavier KB's. After 15 months of CF, I finally got my first couple of kipping pull-ups without a band the other day, so I have to say I'm starting to like pull-ups too!

Do you still eat Paleo?

Yes! I'm actually on day 50 of a 60-day Paleo challenge with my gym, so we've been extra strict lately!

What's your favorite paleo snack?

Avocado bacon deviled eggs - amazing, and lots of protein.

Finally, do you have advice for other women interested in doing CrossFit prior to their big day?

Yes... do it. You'll think it's tough, and you might even hate it for a while, but it's definitely worth all of the sweat and soreness you'll endure, and you're sure to see results that will make you look and feel that much more beautiful on your wedding day.

2013-11-30_0033

Natasha, thank you so much for allowing me to publish your gorgeous wedding on my blog, and for taking the time to answer my questions and share with Fit for a Bride readers how CrossFit has changed your life! You look amazing!!! Congratulations to you and David. I wish the both of you the very best of luck!

{Real Wedding} Jessica & Michael by Civic Photos

Hello again! You didn't think I'd let Wedding Wednesday slip by without a little wedding inspiration, did you? Well, today's wedding has been in my que for awhile, and I'm anxious to finally share it with you. This Houston wedding is full of charming details - the woodsy centerpieces and votive candles, the burlap trim on the cake, and the baby's breath bouquets are all just darling. Not to mention, Jessica & Michael are beaming with joy, and Civic Photos really captured the day with a unique vintage style of photography I love. Here's a message from the photographer, Barett:

This love story of Michael and Jessica takes place at the lovely Mediterranean-theme venue in Houston…the Gallery. Prior to the ceremony we were able to capture the glow of the bride and her bridesmaids as they styled their way through their mini-session. The groom and his groomsmen had a cooler & calm demeanor but they still blended perfectly with the cool brick at the Gallery. We personally loved some of the vintage elements which this couple incorporated into their wedding such as the timeless table numbers and styling of their wedding cake.

{Real Wedding} Amber & Nick

Happy Wedding Wednesday y'all! I've got a real treat in store: a REAL wedding! We've shown mostly engagements thus far, but I've always wanted to feature real weddings, too and today is the start of that!

This couple, Amber and Nick were wed last July 9th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada! (Any Canadian readers out there?) Amber's dress and veil were simply STUNNING, as you can see! You guys know I love lace!

Amber and Nick's wedding was photographed by Sandra & Cris De Sousa of bphotographed. My favorite detail (other than Amber's stunning dress) is the couple's gorgeous wedding cake by  Irresistable Cakes! I love the delicate details and the pretty pink and purple sugar flowers! So gorgeous!

Wedding Trend: Blush Bridesmaid Gowns

I'm really loving all the wedding goodness on the blog today! Why can't I let this industry go? Are you married, like me, and still into weddings? If so, you'll appreciate this collection of gorgeous blush bridesmaid gowns. Of course, there's not much I'd change about our wedding day if I go back, but, one thing I would consider is switching out my girl's green dresses for a shade of blush! I'm totally in love with this color, this look and and the soft, feminine touch it brings to wedding day photos.
