Hello, FFABulous readers! Last week I told you all about some of my top “fat fears,” and CrossFit was a big one. I’ve wanted to join my local CrossFit box for over a year, but I was letting fear (and excuses) keep me from greatness. If you follow me or Sara on Instagram, you know that I recently took the huge leap in conquering that fear and signed up!! Woo hoo! I’m so EXCITED and scared! Lol My local box is called Crossfit Silver Spring, or CFSS. The very first time I went to CFSS was back in February 2013. Sara and I had been looking into CrossFit and CFSS was offering free Sunday sessions that month, so we signed up for one. We were definitely scared going into it, but we both left that session on cloud 9 and eager for more crazy workouts. I’ve returned to CFSS a few times since then just to get more information about joining the box, and every person I have talked to seems pretty awesome. You can tell that they are a group of down-to-earth people who are very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. I can’t wait to begin my Elements classes with them next Monday and start to absorb some of that knowledge!
One of the things I am most excited about is having my munchkin right there watching his mommy become a crossfit bad ass! Because I’m a single mom, I’ll have to take him to the box with me for my workouts. The music isn’t exactly kid-friendly, so he’ll be equipped with histablet and headphones (lol), but I’m so happy that he will be able to SEE me workout. Like most parents, I want to be a good role model for my son. I want him to see me workout and eat healthy so that he will grow up wanting to be a healthy, active kid. For the most part, my workouts over the past few years have been during my lunch break at work. The only time Devin has really seen me workout is when I put a little something together at home. I love when he gets on the floor and tries to do pushups or sit-ups with me; it’s adorable and it makes me remember that this little human looks up to me and will most likely adopt a lot of my habits—both good and bad. Obviously, I want him to pick up more good habits than bad. I truly believe that CrossFit is going to do so much good for both of us. My munchkin means the world to me and I can’t wait to make him proud!
