Hey guys! Good morning. Today I'm sharing some of my favorite fit activities to do around DC, Maryland and Virginia. I think us ladies so often get into a routine of going to dinner with friends... dinner to celebrate a birthday, dinner to catch-up, dinner for everything! Is it just me or does dinner get old after awhile? Not only that, but if you're planning a wedding, dinner isn't always convenient, especially if you're trying to eat healthy, or save money! Here's some ideas to change things up, and retire those boring, calorie-ladden dinner dates!
1.) Do a yoga class with Lululemon- Instead of hitting a Friday happy hour, go to Lululemon in Clarendon and do a complimentary yoga class (starts at 5). Other Lululemon stores have similar events. In Georgetown, check out Meditation Wednesdays from 6 to 6:30.
2.) Take a hike in Great Falls- Pack a lunch and leave your cell phones behind for some real bonding time in the woods! This is a great opportunity to get active and get closer, as you'll inevitably talk to pass the time. Search Great Falls hikes on Hikingupward.com, to find a hike you can handle.
3.) Go Site Seeing in the District- You live in the Nation's captiol! Take advantage of the plethora of museums in the district! Chances are you've been to the American History museum and Air & Space, but have you checked out the National Museum of the American Indian? Have you seen the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial along the Tidal Basin? Be on the lookout for events surrounding the opening of the National Meseum of African American History & Culture too.
4.) Visit one of DC's best juice bars- I've never been to a juice bar and imagine I'd need a little time and experimenting with the menu- why not make it a date with friends?
5.) Shop Eastern Market on the Weekend- If you love flee markets and farmer's markets, Eastern Market is for you! Spend a day shopping- there's everything from jewelry to paintings to fresh produce, or just go for the food! Find the Crepes at the Market truck and indulge in a sweet nutella-stuffed crepe, or savory spinach, tomato and ham one!
6.) Go to a Trampoline Arena for flips and fun in Sterling- I've had this on my bucket list for awhile. I want to go and practice a handstand; having a bouncy surface all around makes me feel more secure.
7.) Do lasertag at Ultrazaone in Arlington- Who doesn't love laser tag?You might not get in a lot of visiting, but you will get in a workout!
8.) Try CrossFit- You knew I was going to suggest this, right? Haha. CrossFit Falls Church offers free first-time classes Saturdays at noon. Several other boxes offer the same for first-timers.
9.) Go Biking along the W&OD Trail- I absolutely love this trail and was on it a lot during marathon training. It runs from Arlington all the way out to purceville, whand there's so many awesome spots along the way.
10.) Spin to Jay & Bey- Revolve is an upscale indoor cycling studio that boosts one-of-a-kind classes, like the "barre ride," which involves use of the bike's handlebars to get in a full-body barre workout! You can also check out instructor's playlists before you go. For me, music is so important in a spin class so I love this feature!
If like spin, but want to take advantage of the outdoors, try Off Road Indoor Cycling - Off Road has a huge selection of classes, one of which (called The Brick) transitions from an indoor cycling class to an outdoor run.
11.) Switch up your Fit Routine with Roam Fitness- Roam Fitness is group personal training with a twist! Check out their OutRun prgoram, a 5k mixed with challenging cross-training workouts that takes place outdoors, and stops along historic sites. All you have to do is show up! They bring the playlist, water, and gear.
12.) Go WhiteWater Rafting in Mather Gorge-Another item on my bucket list!
13.) Try a Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) Fitness Class in Georgetown- Stand-up paddleboat classes are offered through the Key Bridge Boathouse in Georgetown. How awesome would it be to go for a class during sunset, THEN out to dinner?
14.) Go kayaking if you're not ready for paddleboarding- I recently blogged about kayaking and thought it was so fun and awesome! Iwent with Aaron but I have no doubt this type of activity would make for a great girl's outing!
15.) Try Zumba Go-Go in Southeast Washington- I always tell people zumba is the new club and water is the new vodka! Instead of actually going to the club, why not get your dance on in a healthier way. If you're from the area, you might enjoy this go-go centered style. I'm dying to try it! Read more about it here.
16.) Try a Pole Dancing Class (with Champagne)- A few of my girlfriends have suggested doing this and I don't know why we haven't yet! It looks like so much fun! There's often Groupon and/or Living Social deals to get a discount. I'll report back when we finally make it happen!
17.) Go to a Drybar- No, not a bar without booze! A Drybar is where you go to get your hair blownout! There's only a few of these fancy bars around, but lucky for you, there's one right in Georgetown! For $40, get your hair washed and blown dry, and good news: you can sip while you're getting styled!
18.) Try Yoga Hike- Another bucket list one, Yoga Hike Dc is a new outdoor fitness class that combines yoga and hiking. Explore for about an hour and a half, with several stops along the way to do about 15 minutes or so of yoga! Sounds so cleansing and fun!
19.) Go to Trapeze school- This might be a little too adventurous for some, but I want to try it! Just the fact that it's only offered in a few cities (New York, Chicago, Los Angeles), and DC is one of them, makes me feel like I have to! Read more about it here.
20.) Sign-up for a fun run- I recently blogged about the Electric Run and Color Run - both were totally amazing, and are made funnier when done with friends! Plan to do one and go out afterward, or have a sleepover the night before in preparation!
I'm personally working my way through this list! It's a big list, and I have no idea how long it will take to get to everything, but I feel so lucky to live in a place that offers so many fun activities that are also great for my health!
