Greetings friends and happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend!
I've been working on a bunch of new material for the blog - from style stuff to new recipes, but before we get into any of that, I wanted to recap a fun event I had the pleasure to attend recently: the industry mixer for Dance Like Nobody's Watching Part II, at the Katzen Center on the American University Campus in DC.
Dance Like Nobody's Watching is 6 total "dance parties" planned between July 18th and August 22nd, hosted by various dance instructors. The program is sponsored by The Spa Room, Core 72, and the Women and Politics Institute at American University, and I heard about it through my good friend and fellow Weddingbee blogger, Stephanie (aka Mrs. Fox) who works at The Spa Room. (Check out Mrs. Fox's website, The Unveiled Life!)
The first part of the class was taught by Melissa Colburne, Massage Therapist and Community Liaison for The Spa Room. Her style was straight-forward and fun! I loved the way she gave us direction, such as hand cues right before each new movement, I felt like I could really keep up!
As you can see, I was front and center! I love dance!
In 2008, before I ever joined a gym or started running, I got into working out by going to zumba! There were $5 classes offered at a gym near my house. Eventually, after several weeks of zumba, I joined that gym and that was the start to my fitness journey! Doing zumba always takes me back!
If you can't tell from the photos (you probably can!), Destiny is full of energy and fun! She lets out little yelps during teaching, too, which are so adorable! I really loved her dance style!
There was a professional photographer at the event to help industry folks get a few pictures.
Here's what I look like dancing! Lol!
^^ Doing the booty pop! Haha. ^^
^^ Salsa! I love salsa! ^^
The event was so much fun, y'all!
The dancing was great, and so was the company! I really enjoyed meeting the zumba instructors as well as the Owner/Founder of The Spa Room herself, Mary (in the middle back row in the picture below). She's a dancer and yoga enthusaist, and seriously, so, so sweet!
With this being an "industry," event, I sorta wished there would have been more people to meet, but I was actually really happy to spend some time with Mrs. Fox and catch up with her! She's going to the Integrative School for Nutrition and I hope to collaborate with her soon on some posts for this blog! Stay tuned for that!
Thanks for putting on this event ladies! I had a blast!
Here's our group photo! Sweaty, but happy! :)
Oh, also, don't forget: this was the kick-off event! There's still 5 more happening!
If you're in the DC area and looking for a little fun fitness to switch up your routine or get started on a healthy track, I highly suggest checking out the Dance Like Nobody's Watching Events! Thursday evenings through August! Hope to see you there! :)
Do you like zumba?
How did you get into fitness?
